Folate price per mcg — cheapest first

Some folate labels declare mcg DFE (dietary folate equivalents) and others declare plain mcg. This page reads the printed number as mcg and does not re-derive the DFE conversion. 400mcg of folic acid corresponds to 680mcg DFE (a factor of 1.7), and if the label prints the latter, 680 is what enters as the amount.

Price per mcg ranges from a low of $0.000007/mcg to a median of $0.001397/mcg. The median is 210× the lowest, so the cost of the same 1mcg of Folate spreads over a hundredfold across products. That means the per-unit gap between products near the top and the middle of the ranking is that large.

Price per mcg is computed for 2,001 of the 2,629 listed (76%). The rest, missing a sale price or amount, are placed at the bottom of the ranking and excluded from the statistics above.

The Folate amount per serving ranges from 1.67mcg to 25,000mcg, with a median of 400mcg. The maximum is 63× the median, so high-dose singles and blends listing a small Folate amount sit in the same table.

So the folate price per mcg in this table mixes rows declared on different bases, line by line. The same product declared in DFE carries a number 1.7 times larger, which makes its price per mcg look correspondingly cheaper. When reading the ranking, check whether the label’s unit is DFE or not.
